Itzhaki Ben Zadok O, et al. - Consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) included in a national registry (years 2010, 2016) with the diagnosis of past or active malignancy were studied and followed for 1 year to determine their optimal management. In this cohort study of 2937 cancer-naive patients and 152 patients with cancer, active malignancies were reported in 35% at presentation. Patients with cancer vs cancer-naive patients were older, had female predominance, and had presented more often with a history of hypertension and chronic kidney disease. The groups were comparable in the rate of ST-elevation AMI. Observations revealed a more complicated clinical presentation, yet a similar short-term prognosis of patients with cancer and AMI vs cancer-naive patients. Nevertheless, patients with cancer and AMI had worse 1-year outcome.
