Characteristics and management of sinonasal paragangliomas: A systematic review
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology May 03, 2019
Nguyen BK, et al. - Utilizing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, researchers conducted a systematic review of the literature to assess tumor features, clinical course, management, and related complications of sinonasal paragangliomas. There were 45 relevant studies identified with 54 patients with sinonasal paraganglioma. The nasal cavity, ethmoid sinuses, maxillary sinuses, and sphenoid sinuses were the most common tumor locations. Recurrent epistaxis, nasal obstruction, and headache were common presenting symptoms. Data reported that the overall survival was 87.0% with a metastatic rate of 8.7%. According to findings, sinonasal paragangliomas are vascular neoplasms with recurrent epistaxis and nasal obstruction that manifest clinically. Total resection with clear margins and long-term follow-up due to local recurrence trend are management goals. Radiotherapy was used with variable results as adjuvant therapy.
