Characteristics and impacts of itch in children with inflammatory skin disorders
British Journal of Dermatology Dec 03, 2020
Fang MM, Nowinski CJ, Lai J, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to concentrate on understanding the child’s experience of itch and the impact of itch specifically on affected children, including comparison with the adult experience. Semi-structured interviews (nine parents, 15 children with itch) looked at concerns related to the experiences and effects of paediatric itch. The quality, intensity, duration and environmental causes (sweating, climate change, stress and certain fabrics) of itch are essential elements of the perception of the child's itch. Itch impact themes that emerged are skin disruption, physical function, concentration, emotional reactions, stigma and relationships/social effects. Children and parents agree on the significance of capturing the pediatric-focused characteristics and effects of itch in the assessment of disease severity and response.
