Changing the quality of life in old age bariatric patients. Cross-sectional study for 79 old age patients

International Journal of Surgery May 08, 2018

Chouillard E, et al. - Researchers sought to assess the quality of life of obese patients older than 60 years one year after bariatric surgery, and to compare the variation of their nutritional parameters to those of matched younger patients. They collected data prospectively for all patients who underwent bariatric surgery at their institution starting 1998. As per outcomes, elderly obese patients experienced improvement in quality of life with bariatric surgery with no compromise on their nutritional status (protein deficiencies). The lack of precise recommendations makes this to be a major argument that may serve to the preoperative assessment of such patients.
