Changes of glucose levels precede dementia in African-Americans with diabetes but not in Caucasians

Hendrie HC, et al. - Given that, changes in glucose levels may represent a powerful metabolic indicator of dementia in African-Americans with diabetes, researchers sought to investigate if these changes represented the same thing in Caucasians. Compared to those who did not develop dementia, African-Americans experienced a significant decline in glucose levels before the dementia diagnosis. Stable glucose levels over time were demonstrated by Caucasians with and without dementia. The changes seen in glucose levels in African-Americans with diabetes before dementia were not seen in Caucasians.
