Changes in seroprevalence of hepatitis A after the implementation of universal childhood vaccination in Shandong Province, China: A comparison between 2006 and 2014

International Journal of Infectious Diseases May 05, 2019

Yan BY, et al. - Researchers examined how the inclusion of the hepatitis A vaccine (HepA) since 2008 in the national expanded program on immunization (EPI) in China has changed the dynamics of the seroepidemiology of the hepatitis A virus (HAV). They analyzed two population-based samples of people (aged 1–59 years), one from 2006 (n=6,682) and the other from 2014 (n=5,095) and identified an increase in anti-HAV seroprevalence among children in Shandong Province, China resulting from the national HepA routine immunization program, especially in the age groups younger from 1.5-14 years of age. They recommend paying more attention to young adults in the province, since seroprevalence in those aged 15–29 years declined, especially in those 20–29 years of age.
