Changes in kidney function associated with daily tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine for HIV preexposure prophylaxis use in the United States Demonstration Project
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Jan 23, 2018
Tang EC, et al. - Researchers here investigated kidney function associated with HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) using daily oral tenofovir-disoproxil-fumarate/emtricitabine in real-world clinical settings. Daily tenofovir-disoproxil-fumarate/emtricitabine PrEP resulted in reduced creatinine clearance and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). However, these eGFR changes were based on very small changes in serum creatinine and appeared to be nonprogressive after the first 12 weeks.
