Changes in insurance coverage and access to care for young adults in 2017
Journal of Adolescent Health Aug 03, 2019
Griffith KN - Since prior research has shown that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has increased access to healthcare for young adults during their first years, however, it is uncertain whether these trends continued through 2017, the researcher determined changes in access to healthcare for young adults during the transition from Obama to Trump administrations. From the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System 2011–2017 (n = 173,848), data on noninstitutionalized US young adults (aged 18 to 24 years) was obtained. The investigator found that access to healthcare decreased in 2017 after several years of improvement for young adults. These modifications are in line with the latest policy actions that may have weakened the reforms of the ACA.
