Atsumi Y, et al. - In this prospective observational study, the researchers prospectively assess the changes in bone metabolism after gastric cancer surgery in thirty-nine male patients. They excluded women to avoid the impacts of menopause. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) was used to measure bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar spine. The data presented in this work displayed a significant decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) was noticed for up to 24 months after gastrectomy, not only 12 months.
