Jung FUCE, et al. Â Study authors attempted to examine changes in attitudes of the general public towards bariatric surgery and other interventions that can be part of obesity management, during the last five years. They suggested that public healthÂimplications should inform about obesity and advantages of surgery as an intervention to improve individual health conditions.
Methods
- For the purpose of this study, one thousand, seven members were randomly selected and interviewed.
- Aside from socio-demographic data, interviews also included causal reasons for obesity as well as questions regarding treatment methods and their believed effectiveness.
- Outcomes were compared with data published 5 years ago.
Results
- Based on the results of the present study, surgery is seen as a rather ineffective method to lessen weight in obesity and is suggested less regularly by the general public compared to the assessment 5 years ago.
