Challenges in managing proximal hypospadias: A 17-year single-center experience
Journal of Pediatric Surgery May 18, 2019
Misra D, et al. - Researchers sought to report on complication rates in proximal hypospadias surgery, particularly with regard to long-term follow-up, via analyzing their 100 patients with penoscrotal, scrotal and perineal hypospadias that were operated over a 17.5-year period. As per findings, it remains challenging to treat proximal hypospadias. In 64.0% of cases, a single-stage repair could be performed that brought down the median number of operations to only two. In 34.0%, they used lower lip grafts, however, these are now used in redo-surgeries only. They reported a fistula rate of 26.0% that has decreased significantly in recent years.
