Cessation of dual antiplatelet therapy and cardiovascular events following acute coronary syndrome
Heart Jul 27, 2018
Mazlan-Kepli W, et al. - In this retrospective observational cohort study, researchers investigated if cessation of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after acute coronary syndrome (ACS) leads to an increase in cardiovascular events. They also determined the predictors for recurrent events after DAPT cessation during long-term follow-up in ACS patients who were discharged from Scottish hospitals between January 2008 and December 2013 and who received DAPT after discharge followed by antiplatelet monotherapy. No significant increase in the rate of cardiovascular events was observed in the early period after stopping DAPT vs later periods. During long-term follow-up after DAPT cessation, an increased risk of cardiovascular events was reported in relation to increasing age, DAPT duration, and lack of revascularisation therapy.
