Cesarean section rates analyzed using Robson 10-group classification system: A cross-sectional study at a tertiary hospital in Ethiopia
BMJ Open Nov 01, 2020
Abdo AA, Hinderaker SG, Tekle AG, et al. - Researchers conducted a cross-sectional study with the aim to determine the cesarean section (CS) rates using Robson’s 10-Group Classification System among women who gave birth at Hawassa University Referral Hospital in southern Ethiopia. From June 2018 to June 2019, 4,004 women gave birth to 4,165 babies at Hawassa University Referral Hospital. A CS was conducted in a high proportion of these women, and many of these women were in a low-risk group. A trial of labour was conducted in only a few of these women. For decreasing the CS rate, they suggest more active use of partogram, improving fetal heartbeat-monitoring system, implementing midwife-led care, involving a companion during labor and auditing the appropriateness of CS indications as possibly beneficial.
