Cesarean birth and risk of subsequent preterm birth: A retrospective cohort study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nov 11, 2020
Williams C, Fong R, Murray SM, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study of a total of 16,340 women with first two consecutive singleton births and the first birth at term with the aim to examine the risk of spontaneous and medically indicated preterm birth linked with mode of birth in the previous term‐born pregnancy. Relative to vaginal birth, emergency cesarean birth at full dilatation was linked with a rise in spontaneous preterm birth. Findings revealed correlation of term cesarean in the first stage of labor or performed prelabor with medically indicated preterm birth. Term cesarean in the second stage of labour is noted to be linked with spontaneous preterm birth.
