Cervical screening and risk of adenosquamous and rare histological types of invasive cervical carcinoma: Population based nested case-control study
BMJ Apr 09, 2019
Lei J, et al. - Using comprehensive registry data, researchers studied the association of cervical cytology screening with the risk of adenosquamous cell carcinoma (ASC) and rare histological types of invasive cervical carcinoma (RICC), and evaluated tumor human papillomavirus status of ASC and RICC. During 2002-11, about 4,500 cases of cervical cancer and unspecified uterine cancer through cross-linkage to the Swedish Cancer Register were identified. Investigators found that women attending the screening at routinely recommended intervals had substantially reduced risks of both ASC and RICC. The magnitude of risk reduction was lower for RICC than for ASC in relation to cervical screening. For high-risk human papillomavirus, most of the ASC and RICC tumors were positive.
