Cervical dilatation and preparation prior to outpatient hysteroscopy: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dec 11, 2020
De Silva PM, Wilson L, Carnegy A, et al. - In this systematic review and meta‐analysis, experts aspired to explore whether cervical preparation and/or routine mechanical dilatation decreases pain during outpatient hysteroscopy. Randomised controlled trials examining the benefit of cervical preparation and/or cervical dilatation on pain in women undergoing outpatient hysteroscopy were involved. The literature search yielded 807 records, of which 24 were involved for review and 19 provided data for meta‐analysis. According to findings, cervical preparation decreases pain and improves feasibility associated with outpatient hysteroscopy but raises the risk of adverse effects (ie, genital tract bleeding, abdominal pain and gastrointestinal symptoms). There were minimal data on satisfaction, acceptability and complications.
