Cerebrovascular events in hemodialysis patients: A retrospective observational study
BMC Nephrology Dec 18, 2019
Ozelsancak R, et al. - Researchers explored factors affecting cerebrovascular events (CVEs) in hemodialysis (HD) patients by analyzing people who underwent brain imaging for any reason. They studied the files of patients receiving HD between January 2015 and January 2018. They examined patients who were treated with HD for at least 5 months and who were older than 18 years. The presence of ischemic lesions, hemorrhagic lesions, and cerebral small vessel disease was noted in 65 (24.62%), 25 (9.47%), and 49 (18.56%) of the overall 139 patients, respectively. Patients with and those without CVEs were compared in terms of recorded data and later clinical findings. Findings revealed older age and typically the presence of diabetes mellitus and lower serum creatinine levels in HD patients with CVEs.
