Cerebral palsy in children with congenital Zika syndrome: A 2-year neurodevelopmental follow-up
Journal of Child Neurology Nov 22, 2019
de Carvalho AL, et al. - Data on 69 children with cerebral palsy related to congenital Zika (CZ), followed in a neurorehabilitation hospital, who consecutively visited the neurodevelopmental evaluation at 2 years of age, were obtained in order to define the 2-year neurodevelopmental outcome in children with cerebral palsy correlated with CZ and investigate variables correlated with a more severe presentation. It was discovered that cerebral palsy associated with CZ presents with severe global impairment at a 2-year follow-up. Birth head circumference, arthrogryposis, and early epilepsy were related to a worse outcome and could be taken into consideration as prognostic markers. Thus, for neurorehabilitation planning, parents’ guiding, and prospective prognostic studies, these findings are significant.
