Cephalic extraction vs breech extraction in second stage cesarean section: A retrospective study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology May 18, 2020
Ezra O, Lahav‐Ezra H, Meyer R, et al. - Maternal and neonatal outcomes were assessed based on the attempted mode of extraction. Further, the outcomes were compared based on the actual mode of extraction. Researchers performed a retrospective cohort study including 1,028 cases of term pregnancies in vertex presentation that were delivered by cesarean section at the second stage of delivery at a single tertiary center between the years 2011 and 2019. According to the attempted mode of extraction, they grouped patients as follows: attempted cephalic extraction (674) and breech extraction (354). Per outcomes, less maternal complications were evident in correlation with breech extraction in second stage cesarean section, compared with attempted cephalic extraction, without increasing neonatal complication rates.
