Cephalic extraction vs breech extraction in second‐stage cesarean section: A retrospective study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jun 12, 2020
Ezra O, Lahav‐Ezra H, Meyer R, et al. - Maternal and neonatal outcomes were compared based on the attempted mode of extraction. In addition, the outcomes were compared based on the actual mode of extraction. In this retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed 1,028 cases of term pregnancies in vertex presentation that were delivered by cesarean section at the second stage of delivery. According to the attempted mode of extraction, patients were grouped as follows: attempted cephalic extraction (674) and breech extraction (354). In addition, they conducted a subgroup analysis comparing successful cephalic extraction (615), failed cephalic extraction (59) and breech extraction (354). Per outcomes, there were fewer maternal complications in correlation with breech extraction in second‐stage cesarean section when compared with attempted cephalic extraction with no increased neonatal complication rates.
