Central venous oxygen saturation is not predictive of early complications in cancer patients presenting to the Emergency Department
Internal and Emergency Medicine Oct 14, 2018
Peyrony O, et al. - In patients with cancer presenting to the emergency department, researchers explored the link between central venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) and early complications. They prospectively enrolled adult patients with cancer and pre-existing central venous catheters (CVC) who presented to the ED. A shock-index of > 1 and a performance status of > 2 were the included variables that were related to intensive care unit admission or death by day 7. Findings did not support the use of ScvO2 to risk stratify cancer patients presenting to the ED.
