Central venous catheter repair is highly successful in children with intestinal failure
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Jul 08, 2018
Chan AP, et al. - The outcomes of central venous catheter (CVC) repairs were assessed among parenteral nutrition (PN) dependent children with intestinal failure (IF). Children with IF on home PN > 6 months were retrospectively reviewed for 2-years and were assessed for repair success and postrepair central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) incidence. CVC repair, with a low risk for infection, has emerged as a highly successful procedure. They recommend considering catheter repair whenever possible as it may extend the lifetime of the catheter and decrease the risk for vascular access loss.
