Central lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer is predictive of survival after preoperative therapy
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Apr 26, 2018
Ikoma N, et al. - Among gastric cancer patients, researchers investigated for the association between positive central lymph nodes (CnLNs) and disease stage and overall survival (OS). They reviewed a prospectively maintained database to identify patients who had undergone resection of gastric adenocarcinoma from 2005 to 2015 and noted the uncommon occurrence of CnLN metastases in gastric cancer. CnLN metastases, if present, had an adverse effect on OS in patients who have undergone preoperative therapy. CnLN metastasis was noted to be associated with shorter 3-year OS in patients with pN2/3 disease. ypT3–4 stage and positive CnLNs were negatively associated with OS by multivariate analysis among patients who had undergone preoperative therapy.
