Central hepatectomy vs major hepatectomy for patients with centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma: A meta-analysis
International Journal of Surgery Apr 23, 2018
Xiao Y, et al. - Researchers performed a meta-analysis to compare the short- and long-term outcomes of central hepatectomy (CH) and major hepatectomy (MH) in patients with centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma (CL-HCC). Observations suggest that the two groups were not significantly different in terms of the long-term outcomes of the patients with CL-HCC. Regarding short-term outcomes, CH resulted in a lower rate of postoperative liver failure, while MH resulted in a lower incidence of biliary fistula. Nevertheless, CH provided CL-HCC patients with greater future remnant liver volume compared with MH without an increased risk of early intra-hepatic recurrence.
