Cemented or uncemented acetabular fixation in combination with the exeter universal cemented stem
The Bone & Joint Journal Apr 06, 2020
Gwynne-Jones DG, et al. - The Exeter Universal stem was applied to compare long-term survival of all-cemented and hybrid total hip arthroplasty (THA). Researchers conducted 1,086 THAs between 1999 and 2005 using the Exeter stem and either a cemented (632) or uncemented acetabular component (454) were collected from local records and the New Zealand Joint Registry. They carried out a competing risks regression survival analysis with death as the competing risk with adjustments made for age, gender, approach, and bearing. This research guides the utility of uncemented acetabular fixation when applied in combination with the Exeter stem with enhanced survivorship for revision for aseptic loosening, wear, and osteolysis at all ages and for all-cause revision in individuals less than 70 years.
