Cellular characterization of optical coherence tomography and outer retinal bands using specific immunohistochemistry markers and clinical implications
Ophthalmology Oct 19, 2017
Cuenca N, et al. - This investigation intended to associate the 4 outer hyperreflective bands revealed in the optical coherence tomography (OCT) with the histologic structures via human retinal sections and immunocytochemistry at the fovea level. A new interpretation of the outer retinal bands was proposed. This, in turn, led to a more precise interpretation of OCT images, yielding data regarding the health of cones and their connection with the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). It could assist in yielding an improved comprehension of the retinal disease diagnosis and prognosis.
