Celiac disease or positive tissue transglutaminase antibodies in patients undergoing renal biopsies
Digestive and Liver Diseases Oct 09, 2017
Nurmi R, et al. - This study was performed with the goal to investigate the prevalence of celiac disease autoimmunity among individuals undergoing renal biopsies and to evaluate whether co-existent celiac autoimmunity influences the clinical outcome of the renal disease. In patients undergoing renal biopsies, there appeared a high prevalence of celiac autoimmunity, this was especially observed in patients with IgA nephropathy. In IgA nephropathy, such autoimmunity seemed associated with worse renal function. Therefore, researchers recommended considering the co-existence of celiac disease when treating patients with renal diseases.
