CD97 is associated with poor overall survival in acute myeloid leukemia

Experimental Hematology Jul 29, 2019

Vaikari VP, et al. - Researchers used the TCGA acute myeloid leukemia (AML) data set and focused on characterizing the clinical importance of CD97, a member of the adhesion G-protein couple receptor family, in AML. They analyzed 173 patients. Cytogenetically normal vs abnormal patients exhibited higher CD97. In patients with high CD97 expression, they found pathways implicated in the leukemia stem cell interplay with the bone marrow niche, such as integrin, CXCR4, and interleukin-8, among the most upregulated signaling pathways. In AML, poor overall survival was reported in relation to high CD97 expression. Findings also revealed a link between high CD97 expression and the presence of NPM1 mutations. The link between high CD97 and clinical outcome was especially important in older patients.
