Causes of death in patients with acute and chronic myocardial injury

American Journal of Medicine Dec 04, 2019

Kadesjö E, et al. – Researchers investigated causes of death in patients with myocardial injury in a cohort of over 22,000 individuals. A total of 3,853 patients with myocardial injury were identified and classified into the following groups: type 1 myocardial infarction, type 2 myocardial infarction, and non-ischemic acute and chronic myocardial injury. Those with type 1 myocardial infarction and acute or chronic myocardial injury had comparable proportions and high risks for cardiovascular death. The researchers noted that their findings emphasize the requirement for screening people without known heart diseases who present with non-ischemic myocardial injury or type 2 myocardial infarction.
