Causes of death among women with breast cancer: A follow‐up study of 50,481 women with breast cancer in Finland
International Journal of Cancer May 12, 2021
Katuwal S, et al. - Among females suffering from breast cancer, this inquiry was performed to determine mortality from causes other than breast cancer, with an emphasis on indications of joint aetiology. From the Finnish Cancer Registry, data on female breast cancer patients were collected and their underlying reasons of death in 54 categories were obtained from Statistics Finland. Findings revealed an elevated risk of death from causes other than the breast cancer diagnosis, including circulatory and respiratory system diseases and cancer of stomach, ovary and respiratory systems, among female breast cancer patients. The excess mortality due to different reasons differed on the basis of menopausal status and histology. A possibility of shared causative factors between the diagnosis of breast cancer and the causes of death was suggested among these patients.
