Clinical Imaging Apr 27, 2018

Azour L, et al. - An exploration was conducted of the causative factors, associated imaging findings, and CT course of round atelectasis (RA). Eligible candidates included patients with at least 2 CT scans a minimum of 6 months apart. It was observed that hepatic hydrothorax and asbestos exposure were The most commonly associated etiologies, followed by post-infectious pleural inflammation, congestive heart failure and end stage renal disease. Findings reported that round atelectasis could be due to diverse etiologies beyond asbestos, and would decrease or remain stable in size over serial exams. The need for added diagnostic interventions could be obviated via accurate identification.
