Catheter-related blood stream infections in hemodialysis patients: A prospective cohort study

Thompson S, et al. - For people requiring hemodialysis, infectious mortality is independently associated with geographic distance from a nephrologist. This inquiry was set up to investigate if differential management of catheter-related blood stream infections (CRBSIs) could explain poorer outcomes in patients initiating hemodialysis with a central venous catheter. Findings revealed that when assessed on the basis of the location, no difference was observed in the frequency and management of CRBSIs; however, event rates were low.
