Catheter ablation of refractory ventricular fibrillation storm after myocardial infarction: A multicenter study
Circulation Apr 05, 2019
Komatsu Y, et al. - In a multicenter, retrospective observational study, researchers assessed survival among consecutive patients who were treated with catheter ablation for post-myocardial infarction (MI) refractory ventricular fibrillation (VF) storm without prior monomorphic ventricular tachycardia. Purkinje-related ventricular extrasystoles prompting VF were targeted by ablation. In-hospital and long-term mortalities were assessed (primary outcome). According to the findings, catheter ablation saved the life of patients with MI presenting with focally-triggered VF storm; this treatment seems related to short- and long-term freedom from recurrent VF storm when causative triggers were ablated. In these patients, there was a link between mortality over long-term follow-up and severity of underlying cardiovascular disease and comorbidities.
