Categorical perception of facial expressions in individuals with non-clinical social anxiety
Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry Sep 11, 2017
Qiu F, et al.  Experts aspired to figure out whether people with social anxiety (SA) had an interpretation bias when processing ambiguous expressions and whether the sensitivity of their categorical perception (CP) was affected by their SA. It was noted that SA did not affect interpretation biases in the processing of anger, fear, and happiness, but modulated the sensitivity of individuals CP when anger appeared. High-SA individuals regarded angry expressions in a less categorical manner than the low-SA group, however, no such difference was found in the perception of happy or fearful expressions.
