Carotid vs femoral access for transcatheter aortic valve replacement: Comparable results in the current era
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Mar 21, 2021
Marie B, David CH, Guimbretière G, et al. - Researchers sought to compare the 30-day outcomes of trans-carotid (TC) and transfemoral (TF) transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). In this retrospective study, 500 consecutive patients treated by TC-TAVR (n = 100; mean age: 79.9 ± 8.1) or TF-TAVR (n = 400; mean age: 81.3 ± 6.9) with percutaneous closure, were enrolled. Per outcomes, TC-TAVR and TF-TAVR did not exhibit any statistically significant differences; hence, they emphasize considering TC-TAVR as the first alternative in patients with anatomical contraindications to the femoral route.
