Carotid intraplaque-hemorrhage volume and its association with cerebrovascular events
American Journal of Neuroradiology Oct 16, 2019
Saba L, Micheletti G, Brinjikji W, et al. - In this retrospective study, 123 consecutive patients (246 carotid arteries) with a mean age of 69 years who underwent CTA were incorporated in order to evaluate the association between volume and percentage of intraplaque hemorrhage mapped using CT and the occurrence of cerebrovascular episodes at the time of CT. With the dedicated software, plaque volume of components and subcomponents (comprising intraplaque hemorrhage volume) was quantified. Hounsfield unit values < 25 was found out to have a statistically important correlation with the presence of cerebrovascular events and for the relationship of cerebrovascular events, the ratio intraplaque hemorrhage/lipid volume depicted a robust parameter.
