Carotid and femoral atherosclerosis in Antiphospholipid Syndrome: Equivalent risk with Diabetes mellitus in a case-control study
Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism Oct 27, 2017
Kravvariti E, et al. - A case-control study is performed to explore the risk of Carotid and femoral atherosclerosis in Antiphospholipid Syndrome. The outcome suggests that just like DM patients, the patients with PAPS and SLE/APS have a nearly 2.5-fold risk of atherosclerotic plaques in carotid and femoral arteries compared to healthy controls. They also noticed that the atherosclerotic plaques are related to the number of traditional risk factors in both APS and SLE/APS and with IgG anti-beta2-glycoprotein I antibodies in SLE/APS.
