Cardiovascular outcomes associated with clinical use of citalopram and omeprazole: A nationwide population-based cohort study
Journal of the American Heart Association Oct 14, 2019
Wu WT, Tsai CT, Chou YC, et al. - Using the 2000-2013 National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, researchers performed this retrospective cohort study in an Asian population to evaluate the risk of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in relation to the clinical use of citalopram and omeprazole. Among the participants, users of citalopram alone were 3,882 patients, users of omeprazole alone were 31,090, and concomitant use of citalopram and omeprazole was reported by 405 patients, and therapy with antidepressants without the risk of SCA and/or proton pump inhibitors other than omeprazole was received by 141,508 patients. In this real-world prospective study, findings revealed that either isolated use of citalopram and omeprazole or their concomitant use was associated with an increased risk for SCA.
