Cardiovascular health, erectile dysfunction, and testosterone replacement: controversies and correlations

Elkhoury FF, et al. – In this overview, researchers demonstrates the triad of cardiovascular disease (CVD), erectile dysfunction (ED), and testosterone therapy and provides the physician with some guiding principles to navigate these recent concerns. The obtained data indicate that hypogonadism is a known risk factor for cardiovascular events and worsened mortality, therefore influencing physicians to recommend testosterone replacement in such patients. Nevertheless, at least four current reports demonstrate that testosterone replacement may worsen cardiovascular risk, heightening hesitancy in the medical community to treat hypogonadal men with testosterone.
