Cardiovascular health and disease among Asian-Americans (from the National Health and Examination Nutrition Survey)
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 28, 2019
Kalra R, et al. - Using the National Health and Examination Nutrition Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2016, researchers assessed cardiovascular health and cardiovascular diseases among Asian-Americans, including American-born Asian-Americans and foreign-born Asian-Americans. They noted a declining prevalence of healthy weight and increasing prevalence of poor diet, physical activity levels, congestive heart failure, and chronic kidney disease among Asian-Americans in the NHANES 2011-2016 cycles. The cardiometabolic risk profiles of foreign-born Asian-Americans were different from those of American-born Asian-Americans. Lower odds of having a non-healthy diet and blood pressure among foreign-born Asian-Americans vs American-born Asians was also evident.
