Cardiovascular health and disease among Asian-Americans (from the National Health and Examination Nutrition Survey)
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 19, 2019
Kalra R, et al. - Using the American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7 metrics, researchers described the trends in prevalence of cardiovascular health and cardiovascular diseases among Asian-Americans and compared these trends between American-born vs foreign-born Asian-Americans. Participants were selected from the National Health and Examination Nutrition Survey (2011-2016). Declining prevalence of healthy weight and increasing prevalence of poor diet, physical activity levels, congestive heart failure, and chronic kidney disease was shown by Asian-Americans in the National Health and Examination Nutrition Survey 2011 to 2016 cycles. The cardiometabolic risk profile of foreign-born Asian-Americans was different from that of American-born Asian-Americans. The odds of having a nonhealthy diet and blood pressure were lower among foreign-born Asian-Americans vs American-born Asians.
