Cardiovascular findings in patients with nonsurgical hypoparathyroidism and pseudohypoparathyroidism: A cohort study
Clinical Endocrinology Mar 20, 2019
Underbjerg L, et al. - In this cohort study, researchers compared the cardiovascular profiles of 56 patients with nonsurgical hypoparathyroidism (Ns-HypoPT) and 30 patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP). They found that PHP patients had significantly lower levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) cholesterol and average glucose from HbA1c vs Ns-HypoPT. Patients with Ns-HypoPT had higher arterial stiffness and heart rate vs PHP, which was related to increased risk of cardiovascular disease. According to findings, PTH resistance exists in the cardiovascular system in PHP. There was no difference between office blood pressure and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure.
