Cardiovascular events and mortality in white coat hypertension: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Annals of Internal Medicine Jun 16, 2019
Cohen JB, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize the risk for cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality correlated with untreated white coat hypertension (WCH) and treated white coat effect (WCE). Twenty-seven studies included 25,786 participants with untreated WCH or treated WCE and 38,487 participants with normal blood pressure (BP) followed for a mean of 3 to 19 years. According to findings, untreated WCH is linked to increased risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality, but not treated WCE. In the diagnosis and management of hypertension, out-of-office BP monitoring is critical.
