Mandrioli J, et al. - Experts sought to assess the role of cardiovascular diseases with regard to the prognosis of ALS. Alongside known clinical prognostic factors on ALS survival, hypertension and heart diseases (ie atrial fibrillation and heart failure) and haematological diseases exhibited an independent correlation with a shorter survival. Data shed light on certain possible mechanisms involved in disease progression, yielding new interesting clues valuable for clinical practice and ALS comorbidities management.
