Cardiovascular disease risk among children with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis: A report from the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children study
Pediatric Nephrology Jun 20, 2019
Sethna CB, et al. - Researchers compared children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) secondary to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) vs children with CKD due to other diagnoses in terms of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Longitudinal analysis was performed on casual blood pressure, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, echocardiogram, lipids, carotid intima medial thickness, and uric acid collected from participants in the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children cohort. Participants were 79 children with FSGS, 196 children with non-FSGS glomerular disease, and 616 children with non-glomerular disease. According to the findings, a relatively high prevalence of CVD risk factors was found in children with CKD due to FSGS. Greater CVD risk was reported in relation to FSGS vs other CKD diagnoses.
