Cardiovascular disease in hospitalizations with a diagnosis of coronavirus from pre-COVID-19 era in United States: National analysis from 2016-2017
Mayo Clinic Proceedings Sep 25, 2020
Agarwal MA, Ziaeian B, Lavie CJ, et al. - The cardiovascular disease (CVD) burden was investigated in hospitalized patients with a diagnosis of coronavirus from pre-COVID-19 era in United States (US). From 2016 to 2017, they identified a total of 21,300 adult hospitalizations with a diagnosis of coronavirus all across the US for inclusion in the final analysis. A diagnosis of CVD was reported for 11,930 of these hospitalizations (56.0%) thereby suggesting the presence of CVD in a significant proportion of hospitalizations with coronavirus in pre-COVID-19 era in US. CVD was identified to be correlated with greater risk of in-hospital mortality and healthcare resource utilization.
