Cardiorespiratory fitness not sedentary time or physical activity is associated with cardiometabolic risk in active older adults
Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports Feb 19, 2018
Pollock RD, et al. - The relationships between sedentary time (ST), moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and cardiometabolic health were evaluated in highly active older individuals. When adjusting for activity levels, MVPA was negatively correlated with body fat percentage while ST was not associated with any marker of cardiometabolic risk. Even in a group of older individuals with high fitness levels, an association between CRF and cardiometabolic risk emphasized the importance that CRF could have in maintaining health.
