Cardio‐ankle vascular index as a predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events in metabolic syndrome patients

Clinical Cardiology Oct 06, 2021

Limpijankit T, Vathesatogkit P, Matchariyakul D, et al. - In a general adult population, an enhanced prediction of future major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) may be achieved by arterial stiffness evaluation using cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI), adding to the null predictive power of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Prophylactic life-style modifications in MetS patients can be encouraged using this index.

  • A total of 3,807 employees were analyzed in a longitudinal health study.

  • A higher prevalence of CAVI > 9 was seen in MetS cases than those without (33.7% vs 28.5%).

  • A greater risk for MACEs was observed in participants with CAVI > 9 1.34 vs those with CAVI < 9.

  • The worst outcomes were found in those with both MetS and CAVI > 9, with the highest frequency of MACEs.
