Cardiac myosin-binding protein C to diagnose acute myocardial infarction in the pre-hospital setting

Journal of the American Heart Association Aug 02, 2019

Kaier TE, Stengaard C, Marjot J, et al. - If early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and risk stratification could be achieved with the help of cMyC (cardiac myosin-binding protein C), a new biomarker of myocardial necrosis, was investigated in this prospective, diagnostic cohort study. Blood samples obtained by ambulance-based paramedics were used to retrospectively quantify cMyC and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T. Recruited patients included those with ongoing or prolonged durations of chest discomfort, acute dyspnea in the absence of recognized pulmonary disease, or clinical suspicion of AMI. In this study, improved diagnostic discernment of AMI and a significant improvement in the early triage of patients with suspected AMI was brought about with the help of cMyC in patients from whom blood samples were taken very soon following symptom onset.
