Carbon debris and fiber cleaving: Effects on potassium-titanyl-phosphate laser energy and chorioallantoic membrane model vessel coagulation
The Laryngoscope Mar 29, 2019
Tracy LF, et al. - Using a chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model, investigators quantified the impact of carbon debris and fiber cleaving on potassium-titanyl-phosphate (KTP) laser energy and blood vessel coagulation. They noticed that KTP laser fiber function was significantly affected by fiber tip condition. They found the creation of significant attenuation of energy due to carbon debris and suboptimal cleaving resulting in an unpredictable angiolytic outcome, as illustrated by increased vessel rupture in the CAM model. Restoration of previous energy output and predictable coagulation was obtained with optimal re-cleaving of KTP laser fibers.
